A lateral pedicle graft procedure requires your dentist to make incisions on the parts of your upper jaw in order to place new tissue and bone. Once the procedure is done, your dentist may install an upper denture in your mouth as a way to protect your surgical sites. The upper denture gives your upper jaw a chance to heal without any issues. However, the upper denture can also become a source for bacteria buildup and growth if it is not monitored closely. The buildup can swiftly result in a bacterial infection that will delay your recovery time. Luckily, there are a few tips that you can use to help keep your upper denture free of bacteria immediately following your lateral pedicle graft surgery.
Mustard Oil Rinse
Mustard seeds are mostly commonly turned into a condiment to have alongside meals. However, the seeds are also transformed into a powerful antibacterial oil. This oil is great for clearing areas of bacteria buildup and other contaminants. In order to create a mustard oil rinse, simply add two drops of mustard seed oil to a cup of hot water. Allow the mixture to cool for a few minutes, then add a thin lemon slice to the cup. Use the rinse to clean around your upper dentures. Remove your dentures and use the rinse to cleanse your surgical area. Apply your dentures and gargle with the rinse to ensure that your entire mouth is clean. Then rinse your mouth using warm water. Use the mustard rinse before going to bed.
Poke Root Rinse
Poke root is commonly used as a remedy to treat bacterial infections because the herb is full of antibacterial properties. Place a small pot of water on the stove to boil, then add one drop of poke root oil. Remove the pot from the stove and add a handful of peppermint leaves. Leave the mixture alone for a few minutes in order to give it time to cool. Once it cools, work it around your upper dentures and other areas throughout your mouth. Hold the poke root rinse in your mouth for a few minutes before spitting and repeating this process. Use this rinse after your meals in order to keep your mouth cleansed.
